Sandblasting Services

We offer sandblasting services in Toronto and across the GTA for industrial and commercial properties. We strip rust, old paint, grease and mill scale from steel structures, equipment and hard surfaces, then prepare them for a new coating.

Paint needs a clean surface to grip. Skip the prep, and even a high-quality industrial coating peels at the same weak spots as the last one.

What Our Toronto Sandblasting Crews Remove, Protect and Prime

Industry Painting Ltd. provides sandblasting services in Toronto, the GTA and Southern Ontario for industrial and commercial facilities. Our crews remove rust, mill scale and failed coatings from structural steel, tanks, silos and metal deck ceilings, using media matched to each surface. One crew blasts and primes in the same shift, so steel gets coated before flash rust forms.

What Our Sandblasting Services Handle

Rust Removal on Equipment and Structures

Rust on beams, tanks, and machinery frames keeps spreading under paint. Blasting takes the steel back to sound metal. It also exposes pitting and hidden damage, so you see the steel’s true condition before anyone spends money coating it.

Paint and Coating Removal

Years of failed paint, flaking coatings and grease come off in the same process.

Metal Prep for Welding

Welds bond best on bare, clean steel. Our metal sandblasting in Toronto clears rust, scale, and paint from weld zones so repair and fabrication work starts on solid metal.

Surface Prep for Painting and Coating

Blasting leaves an even surface profile on metal, concrete and masonry. New paint locks into this profile, and the finished coat goes on smooth, without the bumps and lines left by old layers.

What a Professional Sandblasting Service Includes

A proper sandblasting service follows a set order. Ours runs in six steps.

  1. Surface inspection, covering rust depth, coating layers and contamination.
  2. Blast media selection.
  3. Controlled abrasive cleaning with equipment matched to the job size.
  4. Dust control and containment around people and equipment.
  5. Safety compliance on every shift, with trained crews and full protective gear.
  6. A final inspection to confirm the surface is ready for coating before applying primer.

Blast Media for Each Surface

The wrong abrasive can leave contamination behind or damage the part. We work with black shot, garnet, glass beads, aluminum oxide, walnut shell and corn.

  • Garnet and aluminum oxide for heavy rust and mill scale on structural steel
  • Glass beads, where the metal needs a smoother finish
  • Walnut shell and corn remove coatings with less impact on sensitive surfaces, so the base material stays intact.

Not sure whether your steel needs blasting or only a cleaning? Call (647) 831- 6201 and describe the surface. We’ll tell you straight.

Where We Sandblast

Our crews work in manufacturing plants, warehouses, food processing sites, automotive facilities and commercial buildings. Typical jobs include:

  • Structural steel, beams and columns
  • Silos and storage tanks, inside and out
  • Metal deck ceilings and metal siding before repainting
  • Handrails, stairs, mezzanines and machinery frames

Tank and silo interiors count as confined spaces. We plan access, ventilation, and crew training for those jobs before work begins.

Winter doesn’t have to stall your project either. Many facility managers book blasting and prep during winter shutdowns instead of waiting for spring.

Safety, Insurance and Site Protection

Blasting fills the work area with dust, noise, and high-pressure hazards. Our crews train in Working at Heights, WHMIS and confined space entry as each job requires, and nobody starts without the required personal protective equipment.

To be honest, sandblasting is messy, loud work, and nobody wants a blast zone next to a running production line. So we put as much planning into containment and timing as into the blasting itself. Evenings, weekends, and phased work by zone are all options.

How to Compare Sandblasting Companies

Put these questions to any sandblasting companies bidding on your job.

  • Do you inspect before you quote?
  • Which media will you use, and why?
  • How will you contain dust near my staff and equipment?
  • Crew training for heights and confined spaces?
  • Do you apply the coating after blasting, or does another contractor?

The last answer matters most, for the flash rust reason above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Professional sandblasting services must comply with safety standards that regulate dust control, PPE usage, and containment. In regulated zones like sandblasting in Toronto, companies are required to use approved blasting media, maintain proper ventilation, and dispose of residues in accordance with environmental laws.

Quality in metal sandblasting is verified by examining surface cleanliness, anchor profile depth, and uniformity. Reputable sandblasting companies use inspection tools like surface comparators and cleanliness grades (e.g., SSPC or ISO standards) to ensure a properly prepared substrate for coating application.

During any sandblasting service, workers must wear full protective gear—respirators, gloves, and suits—to avoid silica exposure. Controlled ventilation and dust collection systems are mandatory, particularly for indoor or confined projects performed by industrial sandblasting companies.

Although sandblasting services provide effective surface cleaning, they can generate significant dust and noise if not properly contained. The process also risks surface deformation on softer metals if incorrect media or pressure settings are used by inexperienced operators in sandblasting services.

Once sandblasting is complete, metals should be immediately primed or coated to prevent flash rust. Contractors offering sandblasting services often apply corrosion-resistant primers or sealants within hours of blasting to maintain the clean, roughened surface for paint adhesion.

Different types of abrasive media are used depending on the project requirements. Common options include sand, glass beads, aluminium oxide, and baking soda, each offering varying levels of aggressiveness and finish quality.

Sandblasting is not suitable for every surface. While it works well on metal, concrete, and stone, softer materials like certain woods or delicate finishes may require gentler methods, such as soda or bead blasting, to avoid damage.

Proper safety measures include wearing protective gear such as respirators, gloves, and suits, as well as using containment systems and ventilation to control dust and debris during the process.

Yes, on surface rust and scale. Blasting strips rust down to clean metal, including rust inside pits. It does not restore steel thickness already lost to corrosion. If an inspection after blasting shows deep pitting, the steel needs repair before coating.

Sandblasting removes rust and old coatings and leaves a profile for new paint. Dry ice blasting cleans without abrasive residue and works well for sensitive areas. Pressure washing clears loose dirt but leaves mill scale and bonded rust behind.

Not always. We contain the blast zone, cover nearby equipment and schedule work for evenings, weekends or planned shutdowns. Areas right next to the blast zone need to stay clear while crews work.
